Soundtrack Composition

Here, I’ll share a bit of my process behind the soundtrack.

This part is hard! Not just in terms of technical or talent requirements, but because sharing something before it’s finished … wow. Not easy.

But I’m elated about where it’s going, and I would love to share what all goes into these tracks.

Inspiration:

As you’ll see in Part 01, I started with a piano piece that my wife wrote many years ago (before we met). Because we don’t own a piano, I’ve never really known her to play. So imagine my surprise when she showed me this piece and said, “can you use this?”

Song of Saiya

Okay, in Part 02 we’re a lot closer. The main theme for this game is a piece titled Song of Saīya. The piano part from this piece finds its way into other tracks I’m creating as well. More on that, soon.

I really am a geek. 🙂 I would say the majority of music I listen to these days is from movie and video game soundtracks. I especially love when there is a particular theme within that soundtrack that points to a particular character. Think about Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and the Halo franchise. Sometimes, all it takes is one note from a particular instrument, and you know who it’s about.

Inspiration:

Although I’m not well-versed in these genres, I have really been enjoying soundtracks like Tron Legacy, Oblivion, and Blade Runner 2049. Something futuristic, post-apocalyptic, with a nod toward synthwave or cyberpunk (maybe not as moody)?
